Brooklyn - Detectives at Brooklyn’s 66th precinct are out in force tonight after receiving numerous reports of anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled on various locations in Borough Park, with the first incident reported to the NYPD at 8:30 PM.
A spokesperson for the NYPD confirmed that at least three cars were vandalized with what appears to be red spray paint on Dahill Road, with graffiti scrawled on two more cars on 37th Street and a gas station wall at the corner of 38th Street and 14th Avenue.
Police say they are currently seeking an Asian male, approximately 20 to 30 years old, wearing a light blue t-shirt and glasses and driving a white vehicle, possibly an Acura, in connection with the incidents.
Councilman David Greenfield told VIN News that graffiti has been found at fourteen different locations, with multiple targets vandalized at some of those sites.
“I think the community is very upset,” Greenfield told VIN News. “It is pretty shocking to walk out of shul and find 20 different instances of hateful graffiti. We have a lot of feedback from people on the street and a clear photo of the perpetrator and we are working closely with Shomrim and the NYPD and are cautiously optimistic that we will find the person responsible.
According to Motty Katz of Borough Park Shomrim, security footage taken from the Bnos Zion of Bobov girls’ school at 14th Avenue and 50th Street captured the perpetrator in action. Shomrim has confirmed that graffiti was also scrawled on at least one vehicle on 14th Avenue and 47th Street, on a building at 16th Avenue and 45th Street and at 16th Avenue and 39th Street.
“What is most shocking is the brazen manner in which this took place, with literally over a dozen locations being sprayed with graffiti,” said Greenfield. “This was done right before Shabbos was over in full view of others. He wasn’t worried about being caught, didn’t hide it from cameras on yeshivas and other buildings, which makes it even more disturbing.”
