Bronx. A NYPD Police Officer was shot Tuesday night in the Bronx.
The plainclothes officer assigned to the Gun Violence Suppression unit was at Laffayette Avenue & Whiteplains Road around 10:30pm, when he identified and tried stopping the suspect, when shots started to go off, 4 shots were fired from the suspects gun and 1 shot from the officers firearm, one shot hit the cop in his lower back beneath the bulletproof vest, Commissioner Shea Said.
The officer was taken to Jacobi hospital by police van, and what Shea describes is that the officer is in a lot of pain but will hopefully make a full recovery.
The 24 y/o suspect who has several arrests in New York & new Jersey was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
